How to Unlock your Vehicle
Modern electronic key fobs provide greater functionality and comfort compared to traditional manual keys. However, they require batteries that will eventually get worn out and will require replacement. If your Volvo keyfob only functions intermittently, the battery could be dying and you will need to replace it soon.
You can replace the Volvo key fob batteries yourself by following few simple steps. Find a clean surface to work on. Then, arrange all the tools you'll need. Locate the battery's hatch and make sure that it is set to "open." Use a flathead screwdriver or coin or another similar tool to turn the hatch open. Then, carefully remove the battery by lifting the side closest to the hook of the key-ring. Make sure you wear rubber gloves to protect the contacts or the clips.
Insert the new battery into the socket after the previous one is removed. Make sure that the positive side is facing upwards and that it is securely seated in all the clips. Slide the cover toward the key-ring portion until it becomes loose, and slides off. Then, you can remove the cover to reveal the key blade hidden inside. This can be used to unlock your car from the driver's seat if you have lost or damaged your key fob.
How to Start Your Vehicle
Modern vehicles are equipped with key fobs that do more than simply unlock and lock the doors. They can also perform useful functions, such as summoning and auto parking the vehicle. The brand new Volvo XC60 is capable of remotely starting your engine by using the key fob buttons. How does it work exactly?
First, find a clean, flat surface where you can lay out all the required items needed for this project. Place the fob on the surface with the Volvo logo facing up. Make use of a flathead, coin, or other similar tool to flip open the battery hatch. Avoid touching the electronic contact surfaces using your tools. This could cause the fob to stop functioning properly.
Once the hatch has been opened, slide the battery in its socket. Make sure volvo key cutting (+ side) is facing up. Once the clips are fixed Replace your battery cover and then reassemble your fob.
By pressing the unlock button only once the alarm will be disconnected and the driver's door will be unlocked. Repeating this action will unlock all doors and the tailgate. The unlock button can also be beneficial for rolling down the windows to let in fresh, cool air in the summer heat. If you're in the market for more features, the key fob may also be used to activate ERS, which will activate your vehicle's climate control system and allow it to cool or warm it according to the desired temperature settings when the vehicle is at a stop.
How to change the battery
If your key fob no more locks or unlocks your car it is possible that it is time to replace the battery. The battery can be changed with a flathead screwdriver plastic pry bar or other small tools. First look for the small hole where the backup / emergency key fob made of steel used to be. Place the blade of your screwdriver or pry bar tool into this slot and gently open the rear of the fob of the key. After you have opened the fob, locate and remove the CR 2032 3V battery. Replace the battery and snap back the fob.
Note: Certain older Volvo models have a different type of battery which is the CR2025. CR2025 batteries are 7 tenths of millimeters thinner than a CR2032 battery, and you'll need to be cautious about the placement of the replacement.

How to Unlock the Hidden Key Blade
The keyfobs of Volvo have evolved in recent years. They are now more than just a remote to lock and starting your car. they can also shut your windows, and even provide a boost in an emergency. To unlock your key fob's full potential first, you'll have to master how to use it.
The key fob in your car has the transponder chip programmed to your Volvo. When you insert it into the ignition barrel, an antenna reads its code and compares it with the one that is stored in the start inhibitor module. If the codes don't match and your car doesn't start, it won't. This is an important security measure to stop your Volvo from running if the wrong ignition key is used.
You'll have to take the key you lost to a dealer to have it replaced. Your vehicle will also be reprogrammed. This procedure can take up to 10 days and cost you lots of money. Fortunately, there is an option to reduce some of this expense by doing the programming at home. You can find the required information in the owner's manual or on the internet. Remove the logo and nonlogo covers and place your key fob on an uncluttered surface. Press the grey button located in the upper right corner of your fob. The cover will open to reveal the CR2032 battery.
